~*~ In The Arms of an Angel ~*~ Sarah Mclachlin ~*~

Rhiannon watched her daddy, her heart was breaking. I am trying to be well Daddy, but it is harder every day. I am sorry; I dont want to make you sad. She could see her Daddy, and she knew he was sad that she was so frail. This was their day, she understood that without words, a day to hold as much of the love they each could hold on to, and even if he did not know, she knew she had to journey ahead soon, although she felt he knew also. He knew she could not fight age much longer, and that was why he was so sad. She nodded off, dreaming of running on the sand when Daddy took her to the shore. She loved the sand that seemed to go on forever where there was so much room to run. They had seen so many wonderful places together, and really, any place Daddy was with her was wonderful.

She wondered how she could tell him all she felt in her heart, how much she adored him, how safe she felt with him. She wanted to tell him she would never really leave him, even if her body was not here. But today she would focus on soaking up all of his love she could and giving him back all of her love, she would try not to be sad, or let him be sad there would be time enough for that tomorrow. She knew today was the day. They met later with the vet, and he was as kind as he could be to Daddy. He checked her over then gave her some medicine in a shot while Daddy held her cradled in his arms, and as she drifted off to sleep she felt Daddys tears wash away all the infirmities of old age.

Rhiannon could not say how long she slept, but when she woke she felt so much better, like a young pup. I wonder why the vet did not offer that medicine sooner? she thought as she stretched awake and yawned the sleep from her eyes. A voice behind her startled her the rest of the way awake and she spun to find she was face to face with a huge silver dog. She tipped her head and studied this new dog, no, not a dog a wolf. He seemed friendly enough, but still, he was a stranger. She turned from the Silver One and began looking around for Daddy.

This park was the loveliest Daddy had ever taken her to; everything here seemed even more perfect than perfect. She began to get a bit worried, Daddy seemed to be missing, and she so wanted him to see how much better she felt. She began to fidget, and pace as she searched for any sign of Daddy. Now the Silver One spoke to her, she noticed his voice almost as much as his words. He spoke with a tone of knowing, but with kindness at the same time. Your Daddy knows where you are, and as much as he wanted you to stay he knew you could not. It is not his time to be here, not yet.

She looked about her, Here, but where is here? she wondered. The Silver One spoke again, Would you like to see your Daddy? he asked. She nodded yes, and he nodded for her to follow him and he led her to a pond with crystal clear waters. He nodded again for her to gaze into the waters and when she did she was stunned to see not her reflection but her Daddy, as if the pond were a magical window. As she watched her Daddy crying she saw he was holding something, no, someone. Then she realized he was holding her! She looked at the Silver One, Am I? Is this . . ? she asked. Yes, the Silver One said softly, you are at the Rainbow Bridge.

She began to notice others, watching her with, it seemed, love and concern. He is so alone in his tears, even though the family gathers around him. I cannot leave him! He needs me. Rhiannon implored. The Silver One looked at her with eyes filled with kindness. The others are here to show you around, to be your friends, and to help you see how to use the Reflecting Pond. You may visit your Daddy whenever you wish, and even leave him signs you were there. The Silver One said. You can show him you are young and healthy again when you spend time with him in his dreams. She gazed at her heart broken Daddy in the pond, Will he be okay? she asked. Now the Silver One smiled at her, With your love helping him? He will heal and learn that you have only changed forms, that you never left. He will find that you live in his heart and soul until it is his time to come home. She walked over to the edge of the Reflecting Pond and lay down to watch over her Daddy. I am here Daddy, she whispered. I will never leave you.
