The River
By Garth Brooks

I'm Fine

I'm fine
I am strong
I am so strong, I can make it,
I have the strength of gossamer wings,
of spider webs, of butterfly crysallis,
of rice paper, the skin of a bubble,
the substance of a burnt lantern mantle.
I can make it, I can climb an anthill,
I can plow through a paper banner,
I can overcome. except when i have
those mini meltdowns, when the tears
pour from my eyes like water from a faucet,
when the hole in my soul feels like
the black hole in the milkyway.
when the skin that protects me from pain
feels like 1 layer of filo dough.
when there aren't enough kleenex
in the world for the tears I feel like crying.
but i'll be fine.

Sing for me

Sing for me in rhythm of words that rhyme
sing to me in songs that reverberate,
through my soul, awakening memories,
of you, hearing you speaking in every,
bird that sings, in the dawn, every whistle,
of the wind through the barren trees at noon,
every howl, of the coyote, in the evening,
as the dusk, paints the sky from blue to black.
At night you sing for me in soft raindrops,
in the silence, my heart hears while I weep,
the song you sing to me, of you, now gone,
forever soothing, but fades in volume,
in endless sleep, lingering melodies,
of love now passed, the tune still carrying,

The Rain

The rain falls, gently, from the sky,
I can hear, drops, hitting the ground,
steady, repetition, the sound,
the ground ,was so cracked, hard, dry,
at least today, the rain, is outside,
instead of inside, from my eye,
could you hear me, i still cry,
but camoflaged, in the rain, i hide.

The dream

The days pass, parts of the memories vanish,
into the mist of a dreamworld. somedays,
it seems, as if it was a dream, fading,
into wakefulness, never to return,
how sweet the dream was, such treasure to fade,
so soon, but the warmth of rememberance,
will touch, all my future days, will linger,
in the cloud, of my spirit, forever.

It will color all the coming days blue,
yet it will grace them with the breath of love,
softness of love, like feeling rose petals
the scent of, the flower of love, the rose
the everlasting unique, beauty. seen.
the knowledge of what love itself means, you

I CAN STILL SEE YOU

I can still see you,
pulling my arm to you,
so you could kiss my hand.

I can still see you,
pulling me over you,
so you could kiss my forehead.
I can still see you standing,
naked in the dimlight,
in our lovers embrace,
the look on your face.

I can still see your neck,
that like a magnet drew,
me to gently kiss it.

I can still see your hand,
clasping mine, your lips,
kissing mine.

I can still see you,
driving up to meet me,
getting out of your truck.

I can still see you,
standing over me,
resting your chin on my head,
resting you head on my chest.

I can still see you,
the look on your face,
the tear from your eye,
the last breath you took.

I can still see you,
in my mind,
in my heart,
can you see me?

Not you

Your rings on my fingers,
the earing in my ear,
the one thats the mate to,
the one you used to wear.
Your serape on my shoulders,
your bracelet on my arm,
your necklace under my pillow,
to keep me from harm.

Your pictures on my dresser,
a lit candle every night,
your books on my bookshelf,
and I try with all my might.

But everything i keep,
your memory, they renew,
though every night i cry,
cause they just are not you.
